Cosmetic Surgery and YOU: Are you a Gambler or an Investor?

I recently came across an interesting, yet somewhat disturbing, article regarding the recent surge in non-trained & unspecialized practitioners performing cosmetic procedures on their patients. While I’m not inclined to make a blanket statement saying that “just because a person lacks the schooling, training, and specialization to perform such procedures, that this automatically disqualifies him from achieving a successful result,” what I would ask you to consider is that when it comes to making decisions regarding your appearance and your future, would you prefer to be making these decisions with the mindset of a gambler, or that of an investor?

• We all know it is possible to win a multi-million dollar jackpot playing Powerball, but it also isn’t likely.
• So, if you were looking to fund your newborn’s college tuition or create a substantial nest egg for your future retirement, you wouldn’t do that by “rolling the dice” with a trip to Las Vegas, or by buying lottery tickets. You’d want to think like an investor and come up with a well thought out long-term strategy.
• Similarly, if you care about your appearance and the future you will have after your plastic surgery or procedure, you are going to want to think long-term and take the time to invest in a relationship with a specialist who has the schooling, training, and experience to deliver what you want to achieve.
• The growing amount of aggressive marketing messages created by social media “experts” that are solely designed to grab your attention and get you to act impulsively, makes it easy to give in to these primal urges and think short-term. If you do, you may make a decision that you will later regret. Instead, take the time to do your due diligence and investigate the background, schooling, and experience of the person you are looking to work with.
• Cosmetic procedures (surgery or injectibles) have potential risks and/or complications. So, unlike a haircut or a manicure, this is not a decision you want to take lightly. If you think shortsightedly and end up getting a poor result from one of these untrained, low quality providers, it’s not so easy to re-do. So, don’t cut corners by going after the cheapest price (we tend to get what we pay for) or by inadequately investigating the background of the person you are choosing to work with.
• If you’re considering a plastic/cosmetic surgery procedure, you are at a proverbial fork in the road of your life. This is not the time to gamble. This is the time to think like an investor and take the time to do your research. Look beyond the marketing and ensure that the person who’s performing your procedure has the qualifications and the experience to put you on the right path.
• Your appearance and your future are deeply important to you. When making decisions concerning either, it’s best to think long-term and give yourself the gift that you really want to receive.
