Neck Liposuction in NYC
THE PROCEDURE
What is Neck Liposuction?
As a stand-alone procedure, neck liposuction also referred to as chin liposuction, is ideal for patients who still have relatively elastic or firm skin and do not need excess skin removed. Using three tiny incisions, hidden underneath the chin and behind the ears, chin liposuction in New York City is performed as an outpatient procedure. Neck liposuction takes approximately 30 minutes and is usually done in the operating room. Neck liposuction surgery can often accompany a chin implant to deliver an enhanced appearance to the lower 2/3rds of the face. When performed by a board-certified facial plastic surgeon, chin lipo is a safe procedure that delivers a predictable youthful recontouring of the neck.

How Much Does Neck Liposuction Cost in New York City?
The cost of neck liposuction in New York City can vary depending on many different factors. The average chin liposuction cost ranges from $4,000 to $9,000 but can exceed this amount in certain cases.
Two factors affecting the cost of the procedure are the surgeon's experience and expertise. Facial plastic surgeons with high levels of experience and expertise in neck lipo are in high demand and often charge higher prices.
Geographical location can also affect the overall cost of the procedure. Large cities, such as New York City, have a higher demand for cosmetic procedures and higher operational costs for practices, resulting in increased costs.
If additional surgical or non-surgical procedures are needed to accomplish the goals of the patient, the cost of neck liposuction will increase. Additionally, more complex cases that require a longer surgical procedure will be more expensive.
What to Expect During a Consultation for Neck Liposuction
The initial consultation is a low-stress appointment that allows Dr. Zimm to better understand your goals and desires before any procedure. In addition, Dr. Zimm will evaluate the neck, jawline, and elasticity of your skin to determine if neck liposuction surgery is appropriate. Your medical history will be reviewed to ensure surgery is safe for you. With all of this information, Dr. Zimm, with your input, will help develop a customized plan to achieve your goals and provide a detailed explanation of the total cost of the procedure.
Recovery From Surgery
During the first few days following the procedure, a mild to moderate amount of bruising is to be expected. The majority of discomfort from the procedure will be experienced during the first few postoperative days and gradually resolves. Patients are often able to return to work within five to seven days after their surgery. However, strenuous exercise should be avoided until given clearance to resume these activities.
After the procedure and for up to twelve months after, the skin along the neck will gradually shrink leaving you with a slimmer, more contoured neck.
Risks Associated with Neck Liposuction
While every surgery is associated with risks, the decision to undergo neck liposuction should only be made after a discussion with Dr. Zimm and any other health providers if necessary. This decision is a personal one and should be made only after understanding the risks and benefits of the procedure. Some risks associated with neck liposuction include:
- Chin numbness
- Collections of blood under the skin (hematoma)
- Collections of fluid under the skin (seroma)
- Unfavorable scarring
- Infection
- Anesthetic complications (i.e. allergic reactions)
Neck Liposuction and Associated Procedures
Depending on the degree of transformation desired, the neck liposuction procedure can be combined with other surgical or non-surgical procedures to better achieve your goals. Combining procedures can increase the cost and recovery time but in the long run, may be cheaper than performing the procedures individually. Common procedures that are paired with chin lipo include:
- Neck lifts. In situations when excess fat and sagging skin are both issues that need to be addressed, adding a neck lift to the liposuction can help tackle both problems.
- Facelift. If wrinkles, lines, and sagging skin along their face need to be addressed, adding a facelift can help eliminate these issues. When combined with neck liposuction, the overall profile of the face and neck can be better contoured.
- Rhinoplasty. In patients unhappy with the shape or contour of their nose, a rhinoplasty or “nose job” can dramatically improve its overall appearance. This, in combination with neck liposuction can help enhance the overall facial balance.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
After neck liposuction, it is common to experience slight discomfort, mild swelling, and bruising. However, given the minimally invasive nature of this procedure, the pain and discomfort is minimal compared to other procedures. Typically, the first three to four days after surgery will be the most uncomfortable, and by the end of the first week, the area should only be mildly tender to the touch.
Neck liposuction is ideal for people in their 20s to 50s with good skin elasticity and localized fat deposits in the neck area, such as a double chin.
- Young adults (20s–30s) — Neck liposuction can provide improved contouring of the neck for those with genetic predispositions to localized fat accumulation in the areas along the jawline and/or neck.
- Middle age (30s–50s) — Around one’s thirties to fifties, signs of aging will begin to become visible and can affect every individual differently. Neck liposuction can remove excess fat and improve the contour and appearance of the neck.
- Older persons (60s and older) — Neck liposuction can still be an option if adequate skin elasticity is present. However, for many neck liposuction is often used in combination with a neck lift to provide dramatic improvements in the contour of the neck and jawline.
Chin liposuction can help better define your jawline. Excess fat along the chin can soften the angles of the jaw, causing it to appear less defined. Removing this excess fat can accentuate the jawline and improve its overall definition. This restores the angular appearance and results in a more youthful appearance.
All surgical procedures, including chin liposuction, have their own set of risks and complications. Selecting a board-certified facial plastic surgeon with experience in performing neck liposuction can reduce the risk of complications but does not eliminate it. The risks associated with neck liposuction include:
- Chin numbness
- Collections of blood under the skin (hematoma)
- Collections of fluid under the skin (seroma)
- Unfavorable scarring
- Infection
- Anesthetic complications (i.e. allergic reactions)
It is important to understand these risks to better help you make an informed decision regarding undergoing a neck liposuction surgery. Following post-operative instructions and giving your body adequate time to heal is also essential in reducing some of the risks associated with the procedure.
Unlike most cells in the body, fat cells can not grow back. Therefore, the results of neck liposuction are considered permanent. However, some fat cells will remain in the neck after the procedure. Maintaining a healthy diet after the procedure will prevent the remaining cells from storing additional fat and reversing the results of the surgery.
